Active Release Treatment at Ironman Tempe AZ 2009!

For 3 days, Active Release Technique® providers worked on the Ironman® participants, making some last minute tune-ups.  At times the treatment tent had a 10-person line and even though we officially stopped treatment at noon, as few of the providers stayed around longer to finish off the line.

Treating at these types of events are extremely self-rewarding due to the fact that you get to see the athletes you treat finish or improve due to some of the work done on them.  In fact, there were a few people who where considering not racing due to an injury and ART® was able to keep them in the race and even finish in a great time.

Orange County Pain Management’s own Dr. Sebastian Gonzales and Dr. Cris Barkmeier were among the few providers who stayed late but had a great time doing it.

The Ironman® triathlon is a grueling race for those who don’t know what it is.  It consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile run.  Most of the races are run in brutal heat but this year in Tempe, Arizona the conditions were perfect!

Congratulations to the top finishers!
