These basic educational requirements for graduates of both chiropractic and medical schools show that although each has its own specialties, the hours of classroom instruction are about the same. (The class hours for basic science comparisons were compiled and averaged following a review of curricula of 18 chiropractic colleges and 22 medical schools.)
Many times chiropractors are considered specialists in dealing with the neuromuscluloskeletal system, just as optometrist are specialist in dealing with the eyes.

Many of the staff at P3 Sports Care have come in contact with many skeptics of chiropractors. Much reluctance of coming to a chiropractor for care comes from “word-of-mouth.” People often hear “chiropractors aren’t real doctors and lack the education a medical doctor has.” Truth is when looking at the numbers above, chiropractors have comparable education to medical doctors. When most people see the comparison, they are usually shocked and are a little upset that they didn’t know this information earlier. MDs do have extra education after the fact when they go out into their desired field of expertise.
Over the past 100 years there has been a struggle between the American Medical Association (AMA) and chiropractors, which has lead to the commonly known negative image of chiropractors. Chiropractors have only recently gathered together, as a profession, to fight these negative images which had been thrust upon them by the AMA.
