Achilles Tendonitis treatment
Achilles Tendonitis Treatment – Huntington Beach CA
How do I know if I have Achilles Tendonitis?
Achilles Tendonitis typically presents in the lower region of the calf to the heel bone. It is usually worse as running or training increases and may improve with rest. It may be present in the morning and pain or tightness maybe present with walking upstairs and jumping as well. Make sure you consult a qualified medical professional with any pain or injuries you maybe experiencing and very attempt to diagnosis your conditions.
However, it is important to consider all pain in the area of the Achilles Tendon is not indicative of Achilles Tendonitis. Many other structure cross below the Achilles Tendon and maybe the source of the pain or discomfort.
What is Achilles Tendonitis?
Achilles Tendonitis occurs when an athlete, either endurance or team sports, does one of the following:
• Increases training too fast
• Decreases recovery time (overtraining)
• Changes their strength training program dramatically
• Change of footwear
• Running or jumping movement abnormalities or poor technique
Although we state the above reasons, in reality there are tons of reasons why an athlete’s running or jumping mechanics could change, leading to a build –up of an overuse sports injury.
With Achilles Tendonitis, as with other forms of tendonitis, small tears develop within the soft tissues. Damaged tissue heals via fibrosis and scaring to micro-tears. This is the start of the cumulative trauma cycle. Scar tissue is the body’s natural way of healing but it also causes the muscle to become tighter; tight muscles have a much higher probability of developing repetitive tears. This process will cause severe irritation and pain, known as Achilles Tendonitis.
Who gets Achilles Tendonitis?
• Runners
• Triathletes
• Dancers
• Jumpers
• Any other person who stands or is on their feet for prolonged periods of time
What are some common treatments for Achilles Tendonitis?
• Rest
• Ice
• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
• Orthotics
• Physical Therapy (ultrasound, muscle stimulation)
• Massage
• Taping

With ineffective treatment, Achilles Tendonitis may last for months and result in downtime from your respective sport. When addressed correctly, many athletes lose little to no playing time at all
What can Active Release Techniques® do for Achilles Tendonitis?
Active Release Techniques® is a patented form of soft tissue care, which is very effective at removing the scar tissue and decreasing the spasm within soft tissue. ART® providers have the ability to specifically identify each muscle and fascial structure in the calf leading to dramatic results in significantly less time. As stated before, misdiagnosis is common with running injuries and finding an experienced doctor will prove to be the best investment of your career. Many times patients have reported a significant decrease in pain within 4 – 6 treatments!
How is it possible for P3 Sports Care providers to heal Achilles Tendonitis faster than other treatments?
At P3 Sports Care, we are able to address the entire problem and not just address the symptoms. Many providers only address the soft tissue scarring but never address the root cause and underlying strength issues, which will prevent the condition from returning. Here is our thought process:
1. Remove scar tissue from damaged tissue
2. Strengthen damaged tissue (because it will function only after the scarring is removed)
3. Analyze your running/ walking gait pattern (as many cases of Achilles Tendonitis are caused by other dysfunction)
We are able to fix about 90% of cases of Achilles Tendonitis at P3 Sports Care.
