How do I know if I have a Calf Strain?
Pain in the calf can be characteristic of a lot of conditions, but in situations of a calf strain it usually occurs midway between the knee and the ankle. It usually occurs during or just after a period of exercises.
What is a Calf Strain?
A strain occurs when a muscle becomes overstretched, crushed, or overused. During this process the muscle usually tears to some degree, which can be in the form of a micro tear, partial tear or a complete tear. In most cases, micro tears form and muscle spasm follows as a protective measure.
In cases with repetitive strains, the condition maybe considered chronic and is usually from overuse in origin.

How does P3 Sports Care treat a Calf Strain?
First you must understand how a tear in any muscle heals. Gaps within muscles and other soft tissues fill up with scar tissue. This scar tissue is not as flexible and resilient as normal muscle tissue and as a result can tear again easily. This scar tissue also has a tendency of causing muscles to stick to each other. This is how the problem can become chronic.
At P3 Sports Care we believe much of the RICE method can be done at home when the injury is acute (fresh). We focus on a systematic approach to improving the health of the problematic muscle and give instructions for prevention of re-injury.
- Remove scar tissue from the problematic tissue using Active Release Techniques® (ART®) – “Gold Standard of Soft Tissue Care”
- Provide safe, yet effective strength training exercises
- Find the “silent” root cause and give neurological re-education exercises for correction – In cases of an overuse injury
P3 Sports Care provides “Hands-on” treatment, which has been proven to be effective more times than not.
