Here at P2 Sports Care, we use a number of different treatments and therapies to decrease your pain and get you back to a healthy, functioning lifestyle. Active Release Techniques® is our treatment of choice for most all injuries; all other procedures just enhance the effects of Active Release Techniques®. Here is short list and descriptions the treatment tools we offer.
Education about your injury Although this seems like it is not a treatment tool at all, educating a patient about their injury is probably the most important thing that we do at P2 Sports Care. We take great pride in our ability and willingness to spend the time and tell you exactly what is causing the pain in your body, the probable cause of your injury, and what it is going to take to get you out of pain ASAP.
Ask us any question and we will answer it to our best knowledge… “Knowledge is Power.”
Active Release Techniques® (ART®)
Active Release Techniques® is consider the “Gold Standard” of soft tissue treatments and for that reason is sought after by World Class athletes from around the globe. Numerous Olympic Medalists, such as Donovan Bailey, NHL players, NFL players, NBA players, and MMA fighters all have used Active Release Techniques® have had great success with the treatment.
In fact, during the last 3 Superbowls, at one point or another, you could see a player on the side lines getting ART®. What’s so great about Active Release Techniques® is that it is the most effective way of removing soft tissue adhesions (scar tissue) from muscles in spasm, which is often the cause of pain in all injuries. By removing this scar tissue, the muscle then relaxes and responds much better to stretching and strengthening programs. This is the reason we use Active Release Techniques® as the focal point of our pain relief approach.
Many ART® providers have found they can fix about 80 – 90% of their patients by using just ART® alone. Many patients find significant relief with in 4-6 treatments as well, but result vary according to severity of the injury.

Stretching and Strengthening Exercises
Stretching is extremely important in the early stage of treatment, our use of Active Release Techniques® will reduce muscles spasms and your job will be to keep the area loose between visits. Once we feel you are responding well to the treatment, we will then give you a personalized exercise program.
At our facility, we have Strive® strength training equipment which is specially designed at increasing the strength of muscles without irritating the damaged portion. Strive® equipment makes it possible for patients with injuries to begin strength training sooner than they would be able to with regular gym equipment. Keeping up with this program will help prevent any future events of injury and keep you from wasting time receiving treatment in our office. While strength training at our facility, we will perfect your training technique and form, ensuring you will not hurt yourself while training on your own.
We feel stretching and strengthening should be the long-term goal for anyone, injured or not, because it will decrease the probability of having any future injuries. Not only that but it will increase your quality of life in your later years.
Electrical Stimulation
Electrical Stimulation seems to be a therapy of choice for many chiropractors, the reason is because it increases blood flow and decreases muscle spasms. It can be used before or after treatment, in combination with ice or heat. The main reason we use it is for the increase in blood flow to the injured area, which will help healing by bringing vital oxygen and flushing out harmful toxins from the soft tissues. It may sound scary but it does not hurt at all, many patients actually fall asleep while receiving electrical stimulation therapy.
When used in combination with Active Release Techniques®, patients see very quick results.
Vibratory Massage
Vibratory Massage feels good to most all patients. It is basically a big handheld version of the “Footsie Wootsie” that you pay a $1 for at the county fair; it serves the same purpose as the electrical stimulation by increasing blood flow and decreasing muscle spasms. It too can be used before or after treatment. The main reason we use it is for the increase in blood flow to the injured area, which will help healing by bringing vital oxygen and flushing out harmful toxins from the soft tissues.
Most of our patients love this type of therapy and even ask where they can buy one for their own home!
Chiropractic Manipulations (Adjustments)
Chiropractic Adjustments release any adhesions you may have within your joints. Many times, especially in chronic injuries, the joint will develop scar tissue, which restricts motion in the joint. Some people think that the adjustment actually cracks the bones, because for many years when people ask for an adjustment they say “ Can you crack me?” but this is not true. An adjustment only effect the joint and the sound you hear is a release of carbon dioxide from within the joint, kind of like when you pull a suction cup off a window.
At Orange County Pain Management, the adjustment is always done after Active Release Techniques®. The reason is because when all the muscles are relaxed, the adjustment goes much easier and seems to stay longer. This way the adjustment is very gentle and does not hurt.
Our main goal with an adjustment is to increase the range of motion within the injured joint.
